Summary of the book

For the first time, read Independent India's political history in the form of a no holds barred, satirical comic book. In the newly independent India - food production is at an all time low, Zamindars control the farms, Nehru is dead, the coalation Bengal government is headed for the wall and a tiny village in West Bengal plays host to an uprising. From the tiny village of Naxalbari the story travels back and forth in time, as it takes you to pre-independence Hyderabad, post independence Andhra Pradesh and finally to the jungles of Dandkaranya (Bastar and surrounding regions) where the sparks of Naxalbari finally grew into the fire that today impacts India and its people. Amar Bari... brings together an innovative series of comics first published online at Newslaundry

Quotes

"Amar Bari Tomar Bari Naxalbari is an unusual, at times insightful, at times over-the-top, tragi-comic cartoon history of the Naxalbari revolt of 1967. Read these comics to get a very contemporary take on the origins, struggles and growth of a revolutionary movement that continues to inspire many and give governments in our country plenty to chew on; a movement that bears the distinction of having supplied the nationalistic imagination with one of its most damning epithets: Naxalite!"

Orijit Sen River of Stories, Pao Collective, People Tree Studios

"Sumit brings alive the trials and tribulations of India's heart of darkness with his sharply cutting storytelling. Highly recommended for its wit and ironism."

Rahul Pandita, Hello Bastar, Our Moon Has Blood Clots, Absent State

"Really difficult to balance the dark and funny while telling a historical narrative, but Sumit Kumar has done it so brilliantly & effortlessly that it hurts."

Varun Grover, Comedian, Screenwriter and Lyricist (Masaan, Gangs Of Wasseypur, Dam Laga Ke Haisha)
